Winter(Dec–Jan–Feb)

Ideal time for deciduous trees and many fruit trees.

  • Fruit trees: formation, cleaning and removal of dry branches.
  • Ornamental: formation in alignment species.
  • Citrus/olive trees: in soft areas, from Feb. to Apr.

Spring(Mar–Apr–May)

Gentle and corrective maintenance pruning.

  • Fruit trees: before budding to stimulate flowering.
  • Perennial: Light pruning before new growth.

Summer(Jun–Jul–Aug)

Green pruning to control vigor and suckers.

  • Fruit trees: formation in plum, cherry and others.
  • Hydrangeas/rose bushes: remove wilted flowers.

Autumn(Sep–Oct–Nov)

Avoid drastic pruning in cold areas.

  • Oct–Nov: light pruning and cleaning of mats.
  • Avoid pruning during frost or rain; heals worse.
  • Consider waning moon in winter for pruning.
  • Perennial: best in early spring and mid-summer.
  • Shrubs that bloom in spring: prune after flowering.
