The end of the road
Dobres and CucayoThey are two high-altitude towns (in Vega de Liébana) that share one of the most spectacular access roads in the valley.
You don't come here just for the towns, you come for themountain feeling, silence and views.
They have been declared a Historical Site thanks to their ethnographic value.
The access passes through impressivetunnels excavated in living rock.
The contrast of the gray stone with the intense green of the Cereceda valley is brutal.
- Curves and clearings with incredible panoramic views.
- Climb slowly and stop in safe areas (there are sidings) to take photos of the winding road.
2. What to see in Dobres and Cucayo
- Rural architecture:Houses made of stone, wood and Arabic tiles very well preserved.
- Shields:Large number of noble coats of arms on the facades.
- Atmosphere:Very quiet, real livestock life. Here the cows have priority.
- Views:Open to mountain meadows and nearby peaks such as Bistruey.
- Tomorrow:Go up enjoying the road and the tunnels. Walk through Dobres and then go down to Cucayo.
- Meal:There are some inns with spectacular homemade food (stew, meats) in the area. Reserve before.
- Late:Go down and have a drink in La Vega or visit a nearby viewpoint.
- Road:It is wide but has narrow areas. Go slowly.
- Winter:There may be snow or ice on the climb; Check the road conditions before leaving.
- I respect:Do not block tractor paths or enter private property.
