Two classic routes and a glacial cirque exploration depart from the upper cable car station:

The most obvious route from the upper cable car station, leading to the heart of the central massif of the Picos de Europa, where the Horcados Rojos pass (2,345 m) offers a legendary view of the Naranjo de Bulnes (Picu Urriellu). Due to its high altitude, this route stays snow-covered for most of the year (October to June) and is only practicable in summer. Mountain boots with good grip are required.
Route 2 · El Cable Viewpoint → Áliva Refuge → Igüedri Winter Pastures → Espinama

Another classic route — a long and rewarding descent from the upper cable car station to the valley, crossing the beautiful landscapes of the Áliva Highlands and finishing in the village of Espinama. The trail passes the Áliva Refuge and the picturesque Igüedri Winter Pastures (Invernales de Igüedri), traditional stone shelters high in the mountains. One of the most complete and accessible descents in the Picos de Europa.
The Fuente Dé Glacial Cirque (lower zone)
Beyond its imposing geography, this area is an open book on the geological history of the Picos de Europa. A spectacular glacial cirque carved over millennia. In the past the zone was also of great mining importance, and traces of that industrial heritage are still visible among the limestone crags.

4. If you don't go up (Lower zone)
If there is fog above or you suffer from vertigo, the base is also well worth a visit.
- Walk along the bottom of the glacial cirque (you will spot chamois).
- Have a drink at the Parador de Fuente Dé.
- Picnic on the green meadows at the entrance.
5. Essential tips
- Warm clothing: Always. It is much colder up top than at the base, even in summer.
- Footwear: Grip-soled trainers or boots. The terrain is rocky.
