1. Easy and familiar routes (Walks)

Ideal to do with children, older people or if you are looking for a relaxed plan.

Deva River Path (Potes)

A flat walk that follows the course of the Deva River. Perfect for stretching your legs after eating at Potes. They are about 2-3 km, very pleasant and with a lot of shade.

Return to Mount Subiedes

Simple circular route along forest tracks in the Camaleño/Mogrovejo area. It crosses oak forests and offers spectacular views of the vertical wall of Picos without much effort.

Ports of Áliva (High Mountain)

More than a route, it is a magical walk through a forest of ancient chestnut trees in Cillorigo. Accessible by car very close and then a gentle walk between giant trees. In autumn it is essential.

2. Medium level routes

They require mountain shoes and a minimum of physical fitness, but they are not technical.

Áliva Route (Descent from Fuente Dé)

The Lebanese classic (PR-PNPE 24). You go up on the cable car (guide here) and walk down to Espinama. It is 14.5 km, almost all downhill or flat on comfortable trails. Spectacular views of the glacial cirque.

Climb to Porcieda from Tudes

A beautiful route to discoverTudes and Porcieda(an abandoned town). It crosses a unique cork oak forest at this latitude. It's about 3-4 hours calmly round trip.

Route of the Hermitages (Santo Toribio)

Tour the hermitages that surround the Monastery of Santo Toribio. It has steep slopes but they are short. The views over Potes from the Hermitage of San Miguel are postcard-perfect.

3. High mountain routes (Advanced)

Territory of Picos de Europa. Only with good weather, experience and proper equipment.

Red Hangers (from El Cable)

The busiest mountain route from the upper cable car station. It takes you to the heart of the Central Massif, at the foot of Picu Urriellu (Naranjo). It is 11 km (i/v) through rocky terrain.

Urdón Canal - Tresviso

Very hard but unforgettable. Walk up from the Hermida Gorge toTresviso. It is only 6 km but you overcome almost 900 meters of elevation in an infinite zigzag. Pure mining history.

Safety tips

  • Water:In limestone terrain there are hardly any sources. Always carry plenty of water (minimum 1.5L/person).
  • Fog:In Picos it enters in minutes. If you don't see, turn around immediately.
  • Coverage:In many areas (canals, deep forests) there is no mobile phone. Always let us know your route.
  • Cattle:If you find mastiffs with livestock, pass calmly and take a slight detour. Always close the gates.
