A visual spectacle

longstonesIt is, possibly, the most spectacular roadside viewpoint in the Cantabrian Mountains. Located on the border with Palencia, it offers a complete frontal view of the Picos de Europa and the entire Liébana Valley at its feet.

1. What you see from above

From the wooden walkway installed next to the road, the panoramic view is total:

  • Background:The three massifs of Picos de Europa (Eastern, Central and Western).
  • Half:Peña Labra and Tres Mares Peak.
  • Below:The immense beech forests of Pesaguero and Cabezón.

2. How to get there and park

  • Access:On the CA-184 from Potes (towards Pesaguero) or from Cervera (Palencia).
  • Parking:Wide esplanade at the top. No problems.
  • Accessibility:The walkway is suitable for wheelchairs.

3. When to go for the best photo

  • Sunrise:The light enters illuminating the valley. Magical.
  • Sunset:The sun sets behind the Peaks (backlight).
  • Autumn:Brutal. The forests below are a red and ocher carpet.
  • Winter:Seeing the snow-capped peaks from here is very impressive.
